Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall's right skate blade broke off its runner during the Wings' Tuesday night tilt against the San Jose Sharks, and when a player attempts to play on a blade-less skate, it's relatively likely that he will suffer some sort of injury--usually to the groin, knee, or ankle.
As Kronwall attempted to continue to skate on the ice in California,* and then swapped out skates while sitting in the tunnel to the Wings' locker room during a commercial time-out, it was highly likely that he would suffer some sort of injury, and he did just that. According to Red Wings coach Mike Babcock, Kronwall "tweaked" his ankle, and probably won't play during the Red Wings' Wednesday night tilt in Anaheim.
*Admittedly, the Sharks have the best ice of any California-based hockey team, rating very low on the, "We're skating on high-grade gravel, right?" scale. |
